he issue: how to fit the smaller diameter fueling nozzles into a diesel
fuel tank. I first encountered this issue with a loaner BMW, which was
my first experience with the newer "refined" diesel engine vehicles. I
went to the nearby gas station to fill it up prior to returning the
loaner but the nozzle wouldn't fit. I was confused; it was smaller than
the diameter of the diesel fuel tank valve, so it should slip right in,
but it didn't. It had a circumferential safety valve protection system
to prevent inadvertently putting unleaded fuel nozzles inside, which
have smaller diameters. Diesel fuel nozzles are larger in diameter or
they should have a large adapter fitted on the end of the regular fuel
nozzle. The problem is, diesel fueling stations aren't standardized
across the board.
That's when having your own adapter comes into play! Gone are the days of randomly searching for diesel fueling stations with properly sized fuel nozzles/adapters. This handy adapter fits into the fuel tank and disengages the lock. Then fill it up as usual (although the anti reflux mechanism of the fuel nozzle gets deactivated while using this).
I love how it has its own case with screw cap, so no diesel fumes leak into the car! (Funny how my Audi service dealer didn't know this even existed!)
